August and beyond

Words are not flowing out this morning. August seems like a blur at the moment. Work was prominent , saving up for the big Berlin trip. Time still allowed for some other great things.

Then off to Berlin on the 30th! As I get a bit more updated, I will follow with photos from Europe. This trip brought me closer to home. The home I feel there, and my literal home.
I feel very fortunate for the life that is unfolding before me.

Dinges

June had its ups and downs.

Neel passed away on the first. It was hard to stomach. It felt so sudden, but I fear he had the tumor for some time. A couple weeks later, good things came along...I took a really amazing trip to the Alvord Desert on the 12th with my fellow field ecology classmates. I really fell in love with the area we visited, and ended up not wanting to come home. We drove about 3 hours south of Burns to the 'town' of Fields. Every morning I woke to sunshine and a new adventure. We went hiking, lizard hunting, sight seeing, hot spring hopping and thats just to name a few things. It was a perfect end cap to a full year of classes.

June 18th, the night I returned from the desert, Tims neighbor came knocking on his door to tell him theyd been evicted and needed a home for their dog Sheba. We knew Shebas case all too well. She had spent most of the past 3 years chained up outside of their house, barking, or hiding in her pathetic doghouse. They essentially used her to crank out puppies seasonly so they could make a buck or two. Many times I had gone to offer vet care and vaccines to their dogs, but they declined, knowing they would have to get them fixed. Tim and I knew exactly what we had to do. We would take her in, no questions asked. A big task, but she is 1,000% worth it.

Tims birthday came on the 25th. I had planned on throwing him a surprise party-- and all went better than I even imagined! We decided to go to Noble Rot. 1111 ne Burnside. The restaurant has a really amazing view of downtown Portland, and we were there right for the sunset. The next day we both indulged in a spa day at Loily.

July has been busy.

Picking up as many extra hours at work as I can handle. Deutsch klasse on monday nights to keep up my studies. As of tomorrow , we are ONE MONTH away from Berlin. It hasnt even sunk in yet.
Here are a few low quality camera phone pictures from the last month or so. ( The weaving is from Ruthies Weaving Studio -- my first project on the loom! ) The boys photo is from their visit last weekend. Cooper spent his first week away from home at Grandmas house, and everyone stopped for the morning in Portland to meet up.

New things.

Spring term brings German 103, Geography of the developed world, intro to Drawing, and Field Ecology!
A busy schedule, but all interesting classes! The field ecology class is based on a field trip that we will take on June 12th to the Alvord Desert in SE Oregon, near the border of Nevada.

CLICK to see some amazing photos.

Last weekend I got out of town with Tim, Joanna and Dustin for a quick camping trip in Florence. We stayed in a yurt @ Honeyman campground. Saturday morning was beautiful. We were able to get a bunch of great pictures near Heceta Head lighthouse before it turned too rainy in the late afternoon. Visited with Jess and Keira, and dinner with the parents.
This week its back to classes- training new people at work ( more on this later )- and this weekend finding time to garden at the Holgate Haus and to start my garment for the Modified Fashion Show on May 16th.
Phew.

A bunch of photos to come soon...

Heute ist der 17 Marz

Finals. DONE. phew!

I've made it through another term all in one piece. I cherish my classes, but there is a real innate need to be doing creative things in a spontanious nature.

Been riding my bike around a lot since the re-vamp and making mental notes of places I want to go back and photograph. Today might be that day. Lots of colorful houses in SE with flowers popping up in the yard.
For now, this picture will have to do.
This weekend I get to visit my sister and the 3 boys! Train leaves on friday at 4:20pm. A great start to my sort-of-spring break.

Soy Chorizo & Raspberry

This weekend was by far the most gorgeous we've had yet in 2010. I didn't end up spending a whole lot of time outside- but caught about a half an hour of pure sunshine bliss while down at the food carts on 12th and Hawthorne. YUM

The 6th of Februar

Something old , something new, something borrowed, something blue.

The latest project on my list is to fix up my old lucky bike. Litterally lucky because it was once stolen from me. I had the pleasure of finding it under the Burnside Bridge exactly one week later and I stole it back!

Recently, ive debated whether or not I would take the plunge and buy new. Ive finally come to realize that this bike (frame) has all the potential in the world, it just needs a few old, new, borrowed and 'blue' parts. In the process, I get to finally learn how to work on my own bike! Im planning on decking it out with a cushy seat, nice handle grips and plenty of storage on the outside.

A really great little Bike Shop (pictured above) helped me out today. This place is on 9th and Salmon, right by Tims shop. Im feeling inspired-- cant wait to have the nice new setup.

Tall Ships

"Over a 50-year period, from 1858, over 50 ships were lost on the rough bar entering Coos Bay. This treacherous sand bar is what prevented Magellan and Cook from entering Coos Bay when they explored this part of Oregon. But with the newly founded lumber business in 1858, ships would have to cross over this deadly harbor entrance. It was not until the 1830s that a dredge would make entering Coos Bay a safe practice."

Welkommen 2010!

January 6th, can it be true?
This week marks the return of winter term in school. Native American studies, Deutsch and mathematics. I can't complain. I feel very lucky to be able to go to school; and thoroughly enjoy it.
This blog is taking a big turn for the better... starting now.
I would like to make this a place to share what interests me, rather than a place to air my grievances. Photos and links to come.. Stay tuned
